Family heirloom variety from Carl Akers, originally from West Virginia. Since 1993 Carl Akers has been rehabilitating old tomato varieties that he shares with Craig LeHouillier. Appeared in the 1997 Seed Savers Yearbook, is one of the 100 heirloom tomatoes cited in Carolyn Homme's book.
Large red beefsteak type fruit more or less flattened, up to 500 grams. Wide and corky depression at the peduncular attachment from which some talwegs can emerge, trace of umbilicus in one line.
Firm and juicy flesh, well-balanced flavor, with a hint of acidity, excellent!
Plant with great development and robust. Resists cracking and splitting well.
