CUARENTENA
Spanish variety very popular in the 1950's. Bright red fruit weighing 200 to 400 grams.
Heirloom from Spain, municipality of Alginet, Ribera Alta del Jucar region, province of Valencia. A very popular variety in the 1950s and 1960s, when it was exported extensively throughout Europe. The fruit was picked at the very beginning of ripening, so it finished ripening during transport.
The fruit is bright red, 200-400 grams, beefsteak-like, flattened and ribbed at the top.
Flesh of multi-lodged beef containing many seeds. Very good flavour. Suitable for fresh consumption as well as for canning (when the fruit is very ripe).
Although it has a very thin skin, the fruit handles well. The name (quarantine) comes from the fact that the fruit ripens 40 days after flowering.
Determined growth. Regular foliage.
