Origin unknown, probably German due to its name. Listed at least since 1979 in the Seed Savers Yearbook. There are two versions of the leaf in circulation (regular and potato) and it is not clear which is correct, either two different varieties or a cross.
Large, deep pink, beefsteak-like fruit weighing 500 to 1500 grams, slightly flattened with a more or less pronounced ribbing at the top and curved shoulders.
Beefy flesh with an exceptional flavour, some say better than Brandywine!
Hardy and productive variety.
