Variety resulting from the accidental crossing of "Large pink Bulgarian" with an unidentified variety, which appeared in the garden of Darrel Jones.
Its name is an acronym for HEart-SHaped-POtato-LEaf (heart-shaped potato leaf). Along with Zore's big red, it is one of the rare heart-shaped varieties with potato foliage.
