An ancient variety originating from Italy and historically cultivated in the coastal and mountainous areas of Abruzzo, central-eastern Italy, is the subject of a D.O.C. application.
The fruit is deep red with green shoulders, pear-shaped and with more or less marked veins, weighing 150 to 250 grams, some fruits can reach 500 grams.
Fleshy, dense paste-like flesh with little or no gel and very few seeds. Mild, sweet flavour. Can be eaten in salads but its main use is the production of sauces with very interesting organoleptic qualities.
High amount of natural antioxidants such as lycopene and other carotenoids.
