Heirloom variety originating in the USA. Described as early as 1921 by John Lewis in the catalogue of Floral Park, New York. According to the Seed Savers Yearbook it was renamed "Gold Medal" by Ben Quisenberry in 1976.
The fruit weighs 250-600 grams and is +/- 8 cm in diameter. It is bicoloured orange-yellow with a red blush that becomes more prominent as it matures. Beef steak type, flattened with rounded shoulders that can be curved in a boat shape, ribbed on the upper half. Clusters of +/- 3 units.
Yellow beef flesh with red marbling, juicy and fleshy. Excellent sweet and mild flavour.
Plant with great development and good productivity in the second half of the season.
Duplicate with Gold Medal to be checked.
